I’m driving and I’m sick of the lights and the traffic and just want to get home and have a glass of wine. There is a long line of cars on my right and only a few cars in the left lane so I zoom up on the left passing a ton of cars and then I see the merge sign. I hate this. Now I have to deal with the stress of deciding do I try to merge in now where I see a space between cars in the right lane or to I drive right up to where my lane merges. If I cut over now I will be safe but I will be waiting for ever as I know other drivers with merge in ahead. But if I do go up to where my lane cuts off, I will really be annoying the drivers who have been waiting in the right lane. They will beep at me or make hand gestures or even intimidate me by speeding up.
Some drivers up ahead will drive and both lanes to cut me off. Should I beep at them. The rules say that the drivers in the through lane should be courteous and give me space and let me merge in but the people out there don’t seem to know or follow the rules. Will this guy to the right of me crash into my car? Will I be in an auto accident causing personal injury? I am sweating! I am moving over and he is going faster. I am half a car length in front of him moving into his lane and I can only hope that he realizes that I am driving an old junker and he with his newer model Maserati has much more to lose. I was right he backed off and now I can relax.
