Melanie A. Newby
Melanie Newby has been in charge of the Bankruptcy and Creditor Harassment departments of Jodat Law Group, P.A. since 2005. She also handles Wage and Hour and Employment Law cases. Ms. Newby received her Bachelor of Arts degree from New College of Florida in 1987 and her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law in 1990. She is a member of both The Florida Bar and The North Carolina State Bar. Prior to joining Jodat Law Group, Ms. Newby practiced criminal law with the Public Defender’s Offices in Sarasota and Bradenton, Florida and Charlotte, North Carolina. She also worked for Child Welfare Legal Services in Sarasota and for The Florida Bar.
Ms. Newby lives with her husband, a retired U.S. Marine and practicing military lawyer, and numerous pets in Bradenton. She has twice been appointed to the Animal Law Committee of the Florida Bar and recently traveled to Tallahassee to advocate on behalf of animal legislation.
