Florida Timesharing Laws: What Has Changed?

What Has Changed In Regards to Florida Timesharing Laws And Parenting Plans?

It’s now 2019 and some things have changed with Florida Timesharing Laws. Last year, Florida lawmakers passed a new law that makes it easier for both parents to reach an agreement on parenting plans and timesharing.

The new law led to the creation of a standard parenting plan by Florida’s Department of Revenue. The parenting plan is available to Florida parents that are in agreement. It allows certain visitation days and times for the child and the parent paying the appropriate child support amount. Let’s take a look at the details of this timesharing plan:

Florida Timesharing Laws – Senate Bill 590

Passed with Senate Bill 590, the new standard timesharing plan includes:

  • Visitation every other weekend
  • One evening weeknight between 6 and 8 pm
  • Spring break every other year
  • Two weeks of summer break
  • Thanksgiving break every other year
  • Half of every winter break

This standardized timesharing plan is not available of parents involved with allegations of domestic violence or child abuse. It’s also not the preferred choice for the state of Florida, but it’s put in place to help parents to reach an agreement that is mutually beneficial and in the best interests of the child.

If parents are not in agreement with a standard parenting plan such as this, a judge in the state of Florida will decide and establish a common-sense plan on behalf of both parties. This is common practice in family law cases where the parents cannot come to an agreement.
